People frequently ask me how I manage on a grocery budget of $600 a month for a family of 5! With planning, bulk shopping, as well as bulk cooking, it CAN be done. This was such a frequent topic of conversation that I created a meal plan to help others. And it can help you stay on budget without having to spend a ton more time in the kitchen.

That was before the pandemic, so when I wanted to share it with you here, I ran a test to ensure I could still do this meal plan of easy family dinners post-inflation for under $150. it came to $139! And it actually fed my family of 5 plus occasional guests. Of course, breakfast, lunch, and snacks were above and beyond this. Full disclosure: There are certainly some months that I am less diligent and go over budget.

The easy to follow, step-by-step guide:

  • 50+ beautifully designed pages with ink-saving printables
  • meal plan that the whole family will enjoy
  • shopping checklist
  • 2-day plan for a month of meal prep

remember to include the kids in shopping and prepping for the meal plan!

Grocery shopping and meal prep are highly beneficial activities for children as they combine essential practical life skills like cooking, organization, and time management. Including your child in this process introduces them to budgeting, planning, and making informed choices about ingredients, which fosters a deeper understanding of nutrition and healthy eating habits.

Participating in these activities not only teaches independence and confidence but also encourages them to try and enjoy foods they help select and prepare. It provides a valuable opportunity for family bonding and teamwork, allowing parents to share traditions, recipes, and values while instilling a sense of responsibility and accomplishment in children. These experiences lay a strong foundation for lifelong wellness and self-sufficiency.

As with all practical life activities, this will help to lay a foundation for the fine motor and critical thinking requirements of academic activities. It’s a win-win!
